Man City found guilty as FPL waits for fallout

Manchester City’s financial ruling dominates the agenda, but there is no immediate FPL action before the next Premier League deadline.

Today in the Premier League

Manchester City have been found guilty of all charges relating to alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules between 2009-10 and 2017-18, BBC Sport reports. The ruling concerns claims including inflated sponsorship income, “sham” contracts and an £830m disguised funding scheme.

The consequences remain unresolved. BBC Sport outlines four possible next steps for the Premier League, but no sporting sanction has been confirmed. Roy Keane told BBC Sport he would throw his Manchester City medals in the bin if he were a player at the club.

BBC Sport also reports that the Professional Footballers’ Association chief executive has described Cole Palmer as a victim of an excessive schedule. Separately, BBC Sport’s transfer gossip claims Real Madrid are monitoring Virgil van Dijk ahead of potential free agency; this is not a confirmed transfer development.

What it means for FPL

There is no actionable change for Manchester City assets at present. Haaland remains the clearest captaincy option on the supplied numbers, with 4.95 xGI and 73.8% ownership, while Gvardiol also offers strong form at 7.7.

The ruling does not itself change player availability, fixtures or FPL scoring. Managers should therefore avoid selling City players in response to the news alone. Any future sanction, fixture alteration or squad disruption would require separate confirmation.

Liverpool assets present a more immediate selection question: Isak, Gakpo and Palmer are all flagged at 75% availability, while Van Dijk is currently available. With no Premier League fixtures in the next 48 hours, there is no need to force a transfer before reliable team news.

Players moving onto the radar

  • Mitchell: Available, with 7.7 form and 1.03 xGI, while just 6% owned.
  • Khalaili: A speculative Palace option with 1.29 xGI but only 5.3 form and 0.3% ownership.
  • Haaland: His numbers support retaining him and keeping him in the captaincy conversation; there is no evidence today to downgrade him.

These are watchlist candidates rather than immediate recommendations, particularly without an imminent fixture.

Risk desk

  • Semenyo: Doubtful with an ankle injury and listed at 75% to play. His 8.7 form and 1.49 xGI make him worth monitoring, but managers should have a playing substitute.
  • Isak: Doubtful with a thigh injury and listed at 75% to play. His 3.62 xGI supports patience, provided bench cover is available.
  • Gakpo: Also doubtful at 75% with an ankle injury.
  • Palmer: Doubtful at 75% with a muscular injury. His 25.7% ownership makes confirmation particularly important before considering a move.
  • Cherki and Szoboszlai: Their ownership is high, but their current form is modest at 4.0 and 2.7 respectively; this is a monitoring point, not a forced sell signal.

Tomorrow's watchlist

No Premier League fixtures are scheduled in the next 48 hours. The priority is therefore injury updates on Semenyo, Isak, Gakpo and Palmer, plus any clarification of the Premier League’s response to the Manchester City ruling.
